Spirit led - Lay Vocations

A vocation is not something that we decide to do for the church - it is something that we hear and respond to  - the call of the Spirit.

Many people have responded to Bishop Mark's call to listen to the Spirit, and discern how they are being asked by God to take an active role in the life of our nine moorland churches. Some have felt called to deepen their knowledge through the Foundations in Christian Ministry course., or a degree in theology through St Mellitus College in Plymouth. Others have commenced training as Lay Ministers (formerly known as Readers).

All are learning the best way to serve, not only within the church, but also outside it - like an incoming tide of the sea of faith, lifting and calling all boats - those stranded after running aground, and those which are still in the shipyard!

This page features stories by parishioners who are part of this tide, giving an idea of the ups and downs, the adventures and mishaps - which happen to us all. It really is an adventure. Being Spirit-led means going forward in trust, not knowing quite where we are going, but having faith that we are steering a course set by the Lord.

So read these stories, and respond in prayer - are you being called? In what way? We all have some part to play, because the Body of Christ needs all its members. Never feel that what you have to offer might be too insignificant. Feel free to talk to anyone who has given their story here, or of course Mark or Mandy Rylands, whose mission is to make disciples of us all.

Cast out into the deep...
